Also have a couple desktop hard drives for archiving that have USB3.0 and are “brick powered”. The boot drive is SSD but the others are HDs. For things like charging phones and tablets, USB 3 is a waste, IMHO. Occasionally there is a second small bus-powered drive attached. The attached drives are mostly AC powered, except for one 2.5” bus powered drive that is always hooked up. My Sonnet card, which I bought on eBay, works with all of the installed OSes.
